Oh SNAP! Check out the big news. Ricardo Tischi, has decided to use Erykah Badu as the face of his 2014 Givenchy collection. Not just that, he's decided to use women of color for the entire campaign. Tischi is known for campaigning for multi-cultural models in his runway shows and wants the trend to cross over to all the designers. In a style.com article he stated:
Well, I'm pleased to see Ms. Badu as the headliner for this campaign. Her beauty is well known and her style is even better known. Back in the 90's Erykah had EVERYONE rocking sky-high turbans, African print wrap dresses, and hand-made jewelry - and we loved it! Tischi said, while designing the 2014 collection, which has influences of African and Japanese cultures, he was thinking of Badu and her soulful African inspired style.“It’s 2013. Everybody’s being so cool about Instagram, about Facebook, any media—everybody’s being so open. At the end of the day, why are not so many black girls or Latin girls in shows? When you have an American president who is black! When I see this happening, it’s quite sad, I think. People can be so avant-garde, so advanced, but actually not, because people are still making differences between skin color.”
I'm excited to see the collection. You know I'll post the photos as soon as they are launched.
